The glass thermometer is mounted on a white ceramic back plate which has the temperature scales printed on in black and has the Makers named signed on the ceramic back plate also. Alfred Apps, born in 1893 opened in 433 Strand London in the late 1860s listed as optician and maker of mathematical pharmacological instruments. This was a very well thought of company in its day and at the cutting edge of technology at the time. The thermometer is in working condition, the ceramic back plate has a circular ring at the top which the thermometer could have been hung with though this has been broken and glued together in the past. Height 50.5cm 19.9 inches, Width 9.5cm 3.7 inches, Depth 2.5cm 9 inch.
